Bright future as Montessori turns 30

10 Feb, 2010 03:00 AM
In 2010, Yass Montessori Pre-School will proudly celebrate 30 years of service to the Yass Community. Indeed, this year will see the first of the second generation of students commence at the Pre-School.

Further, this year will also see the Pre-School relocate to stunning, new, purpose built premises at the rear of the Comur Street Teahouse. With the new building almost complete and the fit-out and work on the playground ready to start, the Committee expects that the Pre-School will begin operation at the new site at the start of Term 2.

The Pre-School recently moved from the old convent building in the grounds of Mt Carmel School to the Robinson Room at the Old Gwen Warmington Lodge site in Rossi Street. This move was necessary to make way for major refurbishment works to commence at the Mt Carmel site. Yass Valley Council was happy to rent the Robinson Room as an interim site to operate from until the new premises were complete.

The school strives to provide an alternative and unique pre-school experience to children in our community based on the educational philosophy of Dr Maria Montessori, enabling children to develop self-confidence, self awareness, independence, the ability to concentrate, social and motor skills and creative intelligence. The Pre-School is one of few Montessori schools west of the Blue Mountains, under the control of its parent body. Uniquely, the school offers a Montessori education on a sessional basis with affordable fees to its community.

The Yass Montessori Pre-School committee gratefully acknowledges the support of the Yass Valley Council for the use of the Robinson Room.

Enquiries regarding the Yass Montessori Pre-School can be made to the Directress, Kay Betts on 62261596 after 3.30pm on weekdays.
