A Grand Junction Road resident has let fly, calling on Yass Valley Council to fix up the nature strips around the south side of town.
The local said he regularly mowed the grass verge down his street, but indicated he was fed up with the state of footpaths and grass areas on the main entrance into town and along Grand Junction Road.
For a town that’s growing and trying to promote itself, the man said, the average street looks terrible. “It’s shocking. I’m sick of it. I get out and mow around my house, but the rest of it looks crap,” he said.
The man accused Council of maintaining the grass along Yass Valley Way “so poorly, they’ve actually killed it”.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said the surroundings of the two major roadways into Yass were far from welcoming and felt it was about time something was done.
Yass Valley Council said the mowing and upkeep of nature strips was sorted on a contractual basis. A spokesperson indicated the mowing is complete bar a touch of whipper-snipper work and Council was happy with the finished product. Council has many competing demands on its budget and there is a limited amount of money available to be spent on nature strips.
