Wind Farm work begins

01 Aug, 2008 04:00 AM
Trucks and bulldozers have moved onto the Cullerin Ranges, thus beginning the first stages of the construction of the Cullerin Range Wind Farm. The construction camp has been set up (see picture) and this has been the base for the workers to go about their task of preparing the site for the building of the 15 turbines later in the year. Origin Energy’s PR people tell me that the project is “on schedule”.

Local trades people have been employed doing fencing, electrical and general labouring work. Preliminary road works are progressing and include remediation of washed out gullies of Lerida Road North using excess soil from the preliminary work already mentioned. Road base has also been locally sourced. As can be appreciated, with so many large construction vehicles on Lerida Road North, a 40 km/hour speed limit has been imposed.
