Yass shoppers can expect an ALDI Supermarket to open its doors for trading in the final quarter of this year.
The retail giant last week announced it had received a building certificate from Yass Valley Council, marking the end of the negotiation phase and the beginning of the construction process.
It’s anticipated the store – located in Crago Street at the front and Comur Street at the rear – will be ready to go sometime between September and December of this year, six months after its initial estimated opening.
The grooming process of the site, which used to be home to Landmark Copeland Medway and a Caltex service station prior to that, as well as housing the historic Crago’s Mill structure, took a little longer than expected with interested parties keen to examine any artefacts uncovered during excavation.
“The development of ALDI’s Yass store is progressing well and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year,” a spokesperson for the company said. “We look forward to providing the Yass community with quality products at low prices.”
At the time of going to press, ALDI had yet to officially appoint a successful tender but indicated it would do so in the very near future.
