The Yass Valley Heritage Celebration held on November 7 and 9, 2009 was organised by Glenda Snape on behalf of the Yass Antique Motor Club Inc. The popular event was attended by approximately 3,500 people.
The highlight of the heritage celebration was the wonderful display of vintage cars in Banjo Paterson Park, with over 100 cars ranging from a 1911 Cadillac to cars of the 1960’s. The owners, who came far and wide, were only too pleased to show these beautifully restored vehicles from a bygone era and talk to the members of the public who were interested to hear about them. A number of restored World War II military vehicles and some antique motor bikes were also on display.
As well as the vintage cars there was a celebration of vintage fashions, homewares and posters.
A great community spirit was evidenced by the many groups who worked together to ensure the success of the event. Morning and afternoon teas were provided by the YECCA Committee, the barbeque was manned by Yass Rotary, Yass Lions operated the Jumping Castle to entertain the children and novelty box car races were a great source of fun as well.
The Heritage Celebration was linked to Yass Arts Trail, which included an art exhibition and workshop, and the Red Cross Open Garden display - all held on the one weekend.
This was the fourth heritage celebration event organised by the Yass Antique Motor Club and is a major event for vintage car enthusiasts.
"We look forward to more of these special events in future years and congratulate the Club on receiving this award," State MP Katrina Hodgkinson said in presenting the award.
