Yass Valley Council has appointed an acting General Manager to take over on a casual basis while David Rowe recovers from serious illness.
The position was offered to retired Queanbeyan General Manager Hugh Percy on Tuesday who accepted on a flexible casual basis until Mr Rowe returns to work.
Mr Percy has a wealth of local government experience having worked as the Shire Clerk and General Manager of Queanbeyan City Council. Most recently he has fulfilled duties as Administrator of Walgett Shire Council.
Mr Percy will work in the Council Chambers every Tuesday and will be present at council meetings. He will also be available as required by prior appointment and on an as-needs basis.
Mayor Nic Carmody said Mr Rowe personally recommended Mr Percy for the position.
“Hugh’s name came up in discussion between myself and David as a suitable replacement,” he said.
“Yass Valley Council is very lucky to find someone with Hugh’s wealth of local government experience.”
Mr Rowe remains in Canberra Hospital where he is recuperating following two emergency operations last month and a serious post-surgery infection.
“Doctors are happy with his progress but he still has a lot of recuperating to do,” mayor Carmody said.
“David has asked me to thank everyone who has sent him cards and well wishes. David and his family very much appreciate the support.”
