An unbeaten 103 by skipper Joseph Logue has helped the Aussie Bulls maintain their unblemished record in the second grade Stribley Shield competition.
Logue had a field day against the Golf Club Taipans at Bowning Oval on Saturday. Logue belted the ball to all parts of the ground on his to making 103, at which point he retired.
Opening batsman Adam Greenwood once again found himself among the runs, smashing his way to 55. Jason McDonald, 18, and Josh Paton, 10, were the only the other batsmen to reach double figures however as the Bulls completely fell apart. They lost their last six wickets for 11 runs to be dismissed for 218.
Iain Kemp was the destroyer, bagging four wickets for the Taipans. Tom Roche finished with two wickets, while Hussein Kassouh and Iain Lindley each managed one.
A poor start with willow in reply limited the Taipans’ chances of reeling in the runs. A middle order revival from the likes of Tom Roche, 26, Iain Kemp, 35, and Hussein Kassouh, 20, put the chase back on course.
But it wasn’t to be. The Taipans succumbed to the Bulls for 143.
Josh Paton finished with 2-12 off seven overs, Joseph Logue 2-20 off seven and Luke Angove 2-28.
In the second match at the weekend, Gundaroo bounced back from a disappointing loss at the hands of the Bulls to easily account for the Murrumbateman Maulers.
After four competition rounds, the Aussie Bulls are undefeated at the top of the Sweeney Cup table. Gundaroo sit in second position with two wins from three matches, with Murrumbateman third, the Taipans fourth and Bookham/Bowning at the bottom.
On Saturday, the Yass Golf Club Taipans host Murrumbateman at O’Connor Park, while the luckless Bookham/Bowning will travel to Gundaroo.
