Fifteen Yass polocrosse players have been selected to represent the Southern Highlands at the NSW Zone Championships in Young next month.
The championships, to be held on the weekend of August 1 and 2, will give competitors the chance to vie for a place in the New South Wales team to compete at the National Polocrosse Championships in Ballarat in March.
Chris Bailey and Aaron Power earned call-ups to the Southern Highlands men’s team; Cherylee Sturt and Alarna Hall were selected in the women’s squad; Rachel and Callum Hughes in the mixed outfit; Rhiannon Mackie, Megan O’Brien, Trish Moore and Rebecca Carter were chosen for the under 24 women’s team - with Brooke Debritt as the reserve; Hayley Debritt and Tegan Morris were picked in the junior side; and Cathy Bennett, Michael Gorman and Michael Woods were selected for the masters team.
The sheer number of players chosen indicates the depth of talent in Yass polocrosse circles.
While the polocrosse season in the Southern Highlands may be winding up, carnivals in the South West Slopes Zone continue. Competitions will be held at Marrar on July 4-5, Harden on July 11-12, Jugiong on July 18-19 and Orange on August 8-9.
