 Wilbur's wipeout

Wilbur's wipeout

03 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
On a beautiful winter Saturday afternoon our recently retired - and already well travelled - Wilbur Whyte showed his very classy all round golf game with a well compiled score of 41 stableford points. With that score he took the A grade voucher and had the best overall score of the day.

In B Grade it was Joe Orifice’s 40pts that stood the test and in C Grade the wily skills of Peter Anderson survived a countback situation to give him victory from Norm Napper. Jarrod Porter, Bob Johnson and Chris Simpson also played some excellent golf in accumulating 39pts in their respective grades.

(Sunday 4BBB multiplier)

That anti-friendship form of golf called 4BBB Multiplier was the format for Sunday. It’s all about zero arithmetic, where one player playing well is sunk by his partner playing not so well. For example: 4 x 0 = 0! You get the picture. Two chaps playing half decent golf remain friends, eg 2 x 2 = 4. Much better.

The father and son combo of Sam and Jarrod of the Porter Clan were smiling “best of friends” winners with 88pts – 2pts clear of P Bourke and D Glauis. In third spot was the team of Stephen Greenwood and Brad Porter. Nearest the pin went to Craig Chapman on the 16th hole.

(Mid-week Comp)

A Grade: Mark Holt 21pts had an outstanding nine holes in beating Chris Simpson 18pts.

B Grade: Roger Nielson’s 21pts was good enough by one point from Kevin Mann.

Ball Comp to 18pts ocb: K Mann x 2, S Dobbin, C Simpson, K Reidy, D Hanrahan, I Lumsden.

(Dads Army)

With a few of the troops on overseas postings and others laying low, there were only the ten battle ready souls on the first tee last Thursday. Most recent reduction in numbers came about when Doug Oldfield snapped his leg in two places, having slipped while walking from the 16th green. To Doug and Les Puckett, the troops and fellow Club members send their best wishes for speedy recoveries.

Bernie Puckett sneaked through the back fence with the warm winter’s morning having lured him from hibernation. His 18pts was plenty good enough to win the money from Graham Howlett’s 16pts and Ken Reidy’s 15.
