This year, the Yass Pony Club celebrates an important milestone- it is their 50th anniversary. Yass Pony Club is one of the oldest running clubs in the district. The club has a proud history which dates back to 1962 in the days long before horse floats were affordable, when young members used to ride from properties far and wide to get to Yass Showground. To this day, there are descendants of the founding families who regularly attend Yass Pony Club, and the grandparents who knew those good old days are still around to share their stories.

Yass Pony Club has some secret plans to hold a celebration dinner in the months to come, and are seeking the community’s help. If you have any memorabilia you could share with the club, please contact the secretary or Senior Instructor. They are looking for photos, news clippings, saddlery gear, old uniforms, interesting stories and the like. There will be a Guest speaker on the night, with an opportunity for others to share their memories as well.
Plans are also underway to celebrate the club’s half-century. Please contact Debbie Tonkin (senior instructor) by phone on 6386 8287 or by e-mail at taylortonkin4@bigppond.com.
