The Yass Magpies last night began the first of their pre-season formalities, with new coach Mark Bell running players through their paces.
Bell is eager to get the troops onto the training track and is encouraging all locally based players to turn out for the Magpies this season.
A strong believer in nurturing locally based players and resisting the financial overtures of larger rivals, Bell is focussed on developing the Magpies into a semi-final outfit.
The club has experienced a large turnover of players from the 2009 season but remains confident of fielding a first grade team in 2010.
Players from all grades are encouraged to attend training on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Walker Park.
Those who are unable to make it are asked to notify Mark or Dave O’Brien on 0402 154 013.
Matt Carroll will coach the reserve grade team in 2010, while Jordan Smedley will take the reins of the under 18s outfit.
The competition is expected to commence on Saturday April 18.
