Taylah Pobjie, Ella Clausius, and Simon and Georgia Patmore, all students at Daramalan College in Canberra, are heading for Nepal and, more specifically, Base Camp on Mount Everest.
Climbing to Base Camp is no mean feat. It sits at 17,000 feet (5364 metres) above sea level and is more than twice as high as Australia’s largest mountain, Mt Kosciusko, which has a summit of 7310 feet (2228 metres) above sea level.
The year 10 students fly out on Monday with a group of 14 other Daramalan students and four teachers. They have undertaken intense training recently, in preparation for the climb.
All in all, it is estimated that the trip will involve almost 100 hours of walking.
