Crews have been working along Kaveneys Road, west of the Barton Highway, since March to upgrade several kilometres of powerline.
Essential Energy’s regional general manager South Eastern, Phillip Green, said the upgrade was necessary to support the continued delivery of electricity supply to one of the region’s fastest growing rural hubs.
“Over the past five years, demands on this powerline, which supplies power to rural properties just outside Hall and Murrumbateman, have increased by around 13 per cent,” Mr Green said.
Over the past seven months, Essential Energy teams have upgraded 40 power poles, installed new protection equipment and replaced more than eight kilometres of old copper wire with more durable aluminium cable.
With the project now complete, Essential Energy plans to conduct some smaller maintenance projects around Murrumbateman town while a major upgrade project along the Barton Highway is scheduled to commence in early 2013.
