The Latino superstar, best known for the smash hit Livin' la Vida Loca, has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.

Executives at Nine are remaining coy about the announcement ahead of tonight's episode of A Current Affair, refusing to confirm who the new coach is.

But Martin has responded to congratulations tweets from fans and journalists on Twitter.

He wrote: "Sending some mad love to everyone in #Australia! Cant wait to go back! Peace!"

Martin is expected to replace Keith Urban, who left the show to join the American Idol judging panel.

It is not known yet whether Martin will travel to Australia with his sons, Matteo and Valentino, now four.

A Nine source admitted the station would milk the anticipation and save the announcement until the end of A Current Affair's half hour. "It's going to be close to the end [of the show]," a Nine spokeswoman said.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Martin will finish his current Broadway role as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of Evita on January 26.

This is believed to be in time for Martin to travel to Australia for the second series of the hit singing show.
