'Friends' to support Rae Burgess Centre

A 'Friends of Burgess Centre' will be formed to keep this service going into the future.

A concerned group of 30 citizens gathered at a public meeting at Yass Soldiers Club on Tuesday night to discuss the plight of this support service.

The Rae Burgess Centre provides support services to anyone in Yass at risk of homelessness or experiencing real hardship.

It was recently reported in the Tribune that state funding for the service had dried up. Anglicare found some additional funds to add to the coffers, and the trustees have used the last of the bequest money to keep the service open.

There is only enough now to guarantee the operation until June 30.

At the meeting, Michael Pilbrow put forward the idea of a 'Friends' group to raise funds and offer other support to the centre.

This was supported unanimously, with around 10 people immediately volunteering to be in that group.
