Firefighters were praised for their tireless efforts in containing the Murringo fire, the largest blaze to hit the south west slopes in five years.
Spanning 3000 hectares, the blaze was finally contained by 3pmMonday.
Rural Fire Service (RFS) district manager for the South West Slopes, Andrew Dillon, said no homes were destroyed but they were still tallying the amount of livestock lost.
“We're still counting the livestock but the amount caught in the fire was considerable," he said.
“Firefighting crews have done a fantastic job in containing this fire.
“We've had no reports of anyone injured. We're hoping the fire is in a patrol status by Thursday.
“This has certainly been the largest fire we've had in the south west slopes zone for the last five years."
The Tribune understands the fire started when a power line fell off a woolshed about 8km east of Murringo near Boorowa.
The Lachlan Valley Way was reopened just before noon on Monday, after being closed between Cowra and Boorowa on Sunday.
Motorists were still being asked to exercise caution when driving in smoky conditions because of the limited visibility.
RFS crews have conducted back burns to prevent the fire spreading towards properties on Kenyu Road.
