All three matches in the Sweeney Cup were washed-out, and only one game in the Triggs Shield was completed. The Stribley Shield contest between Yass and Cootamundra was held on Sunday.

The match between the Yass Golf Club and the Aussie Pirates was relocated late to Dalton, and it meant that the players avoided the stormy conditions in town.

The Golf Club Piranhas won the toss, batted, and were able to put together a total of 170 off 45 overs.

Phil Sparnon got a hard-earned half century (51) and Paul Barnes offered support, scoring 24.

Anthony Carroll and Nick Pollack were the pick of the bowlers for the Pirates, taking two wickets apiece.

In reply, the Pirates gave the top-of-the-table Piranhas a fright. They were rolled just 10 runs short of the 171 run target.

Matt Rhodes and Adam Waters led the charge for the gallant Pirates, scoring 43 and 28 respectively.

Callan Kemp was best for the Piranhas, taking three wickets for 28 runs while Dave Brown chipped in with a couple.

Piranhas’ captain Robert Field was relieved his side just managed to win.

“We had a close loss last week and it was really close again on Saturday. We were lucky but it was good to be on the right side of it this week.”

Stribley Shield

On Sunday Yass registered its third straight Stribley Shield win of the season. Up against Cootamundra, who were also unbeaten, Yass won comfortably.

Yass was able to win the toss and register 190 off its 50 overs. In-form all-rounder Daniel Poidevin scored an impressive 88 and got some support from Nick Pollack who scored 32.

In response Cootamundra could only manage a lowly 100. Captain David Field was ferocious with the rock, taking five for 32.

Yass now sits at the top of the table and look in good shape to take another Stribley Shield. Yass has won five of the last six shields.

Country Plate

On Friday December 28 Yass is scheduled to play it’s semi-final against Cobar. In the corresponding match Robertson Burrawang and Lower Clarence will clash at Tim Doolan Oval in Harden.

Robertson Burrawang is favourite to win the Country Plate, with Yass seeded second.

The winners of the respective matches will then meet at Victoria Park on Saturday December 29 at 10am.

Yass has beaten Gundagai, Cootamundra and Deniliquin to get to the semi-finals.
