Rotary Club members will cook a tasty breakfast and the Yass CWA ladies will provide tea, coffee and orange juice.
Yass Rotary has decided to waive the charge for breakfast this year in appreciation of the community support given to Rotary events during the past year, particularly the farmers’ markets.
A donation bucket will be available to receive donations for the local bush fire brigades.
The breakfast will begin around 7am, with official proceedings starting at 8am.
Traditional Australian music will be presented by Mark Bosman and other local musicians Cecelia Pavlovic and Siobhan McGrath will also participate.
The morning will continue with Yass Valley Mayor Rowena Abbey and Aboriginal elder Eric Bell raising the flag, and Eric will give a welcome to country.
Reverand Graham Long, our Australia Day Ambassador, will give a speech.
Cr Abbey and Burrinjuck MP Katrina Hodgkinson will then present the Yass Valley Council citizenship awards for 2013.
Award categories include citizen of the year, older citizen of the year and young citizen of the year.
The mayor will also confer Australian citizenship on some local who are taking that step.
The ubiquitous jumping castle will be there to keep the children entertained, and a number of other family fun events will take place during the morning.
