Blackburn
Australia Day at ‘Blackburn’ will follow a federation theme.
The house was built around 1885 to 1890, when colonial politicians were creating the Commonwealth of Australia. It is possible to imagine the residents of ‘Blackburn’ receiving news of the declaration of the Commonwealth on January 1 1901.
Following on from Australia Day breakfasts in Yass, Murrumbateman and Gunning, visitors can drive out to ‘Blackburn’ between 11am and 4pm, bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the gardens with friends and family.
Entry to the grounds is free.
Yass Can Assist will be running a cool drinks and smoothies stand.
Vegemite sandwiches will be available – maintaining that Aussie theme!
Cars from the Grumpy Old Men’s car club from Murrumbateman will be attending and it is also hoped there will be some classic cars from Yass Antique Car Club and the Antique Military Vehicles Club – depending upon the fire situation. A parade of vehicles is planned for 12.30pm.
Natalie Blundell will provide a demonstration on her horse Algebra and there will be rides for the little ones on Algebra’s Shetland pony companion.
The trio Tinker’s Cuss will be providing musical entertainment.
Tours of the house will be conducted throughout the day.
