Caitlyn's a Yass High achiever

Talented young Yass High student Caitlyn Farmer received the Yass Valley Young Citizen of the Year award at the weekend.

Caitlyn picked up the Australia Day award after her efforts both in the classroom, and out of it.

“Caitlyn’s many outstanding academic successes include receiving principal’s awards for excellence in every subject that she took during 2012,” Yass Valley mayor Rowena Abbey said on Saturday.

“I don’t know how you do that,” the mayor laughed.

The keen science student also won the prestigious Victor Chang Award for Science in 2012, and is planning a career in scientific research.

This award is given to promising science students across Sydney and South-East NSW to encourage students to pursue science in tertiary studies.

As this year’s vice-captain, Caitlyn will lead the student body as a positive role model.

“She is an active member of the Yass High School Student Representative Council and Yass High School’s anti-bullying committee.

“Caitlyn helps out in the canteen on most days, is a volunteer with the school farm and a show team member.”

The award acknowledged the teen’s energetic contribution to her school and community.
