The Lions Club of Yass and the Yass Show Society have worked together for many years, as the Lions have manned the entrance gates to the Show, working on behalf of the society.

On Tuesday February 5, the Yass Lions and the show society entered into an historic agreement to construct a new shed next to the main entrance of the Yass Showground.
Originally proposed by Lion Stan Luff last year, Yass Lions will pay for the approval, purchase and construction of a new Colorbond shed, measuring almost eight metres by six metres. The shed will be divided, with the front portion for the use of the show society and the rear will be used by the Lions club. Upon completion, the shed will become another asset of the show society.
The project includes moving the small shed currently at the main gate to the back gate of the showground.
The new shed will be provided by Yass business Independent Garages.
Approval for the siting and construction has already been obtained from Yass Valley Council. Construction is expected to begin in very soon.
The total cost of the project is more than $5000.
It is expected the shed will be erected on time and be in use for the 150th Yass Show in March.
The partnership was formally agreed with the signing of a deed by Frank Grace and Colleen Stirton of the Yass Show Society, and Lions Cherie and Geoff Hobart in a simple ceremony at the Yass Soldiers Club.
“For over 53 years, Yass Lions Club has been active in the Yass valley. This is another important project by the club to provide facilities to the community of Yass and its associations,” Mrs Hobart said.
Mr Grace thanked the Yass Lions for their support and added “It would be good if the shed were completed by the 150th Show which begins on March 16”.
