Shaw Projects applied to install tanks and a grape press to crush grapes and store the juice before it is transported to wineries.

After the grapes are crushed the left over skins and seeds, known as marc, will be used as stock feed.

Several residents put in submissions questioning the impact of grape marc on the site, the use of water, and impact on the value of surrounding properties.

Council’s report says the development wouldn’t have any negative impact on soil quality, would not produce an odour and distribution would be spread during autumn, not year round.

“The proposed juicing facility is expected to generate benefits for surrounding residents by reducing truck and tractor movements, and by reducing the need for night time harvesting,” the report says.

It states water used would come from an independent licence owned by the applicant.

The report also says it was “unlikely that the proposal would result in any substantial impact upon property values in the area”.

Construction is anticipated to take six weeks.
