Make sure to give them a big Gunning welcome if you see them!
Watch your step
A trip hazard was noticed outside the Gunning courthouse by Wendy Shannon, executive officer of Gunning Community Care. The cover of a Telstra manhole has sunk quite deeply on the Yass Street footpath so take care.
Council's recently adopted Ageing Strategy includes the following principle "Pavements are well-maintained, free of obstructions…" so a photograph was taken and passed on for Council's attention.
What's a good read?
A great friend to the Gunning Library Rosemary Thomas, will be the guest speaker at the event "What's a Good Read?" Over recent years she has donated over 150 youth and junior books to our library collection. Rosemary's talk is on Friday August 23 in the Gunning Library at 10.30am followed by tea and scones. RSVP for catering on 4845 1231 by Tuesday August 20.
Visit to Yass Men's Shed
Gunning's Men's Group had a great trip to Yass Men's Shed last month and members were impressed by the facilities. They enjoyed delicious pizzas and went on a guided tour of the Yass River dam wall.
Next Monday's lunch menu for Gunning Men's Group meeting at the Anglican church Hall is pancakes and bacon with maple syrup, lack forest Gateaux and bottomless mugs of tea or coffee, all that for just $2. New members are always welcome.
Good as gold
The annual Gunning Gold fundraiser of Ewe Poo for Gunning Public School was a huge success. The P&C thanks Jack and Jenny Medway, Brent Medway, Tahn and Libby Eather, Russell Primmer, Peter Maher and Damien White for terrific assistance. Thanks also go to the fabulous parents and children.
On not such a happy note, local schools have been informed recently that through a Council error, pool entry fees for Learn to Swim would not be waived as previously notified but a fee of $1 per child per day will be charged.
Eyes on the prize
The many keen district photographers may be interested in the Macular Disease Foundation Australia competition, closing October 2. Check out www.meyephotocomp.com.au for details on the prizes.
Talking of prizes, have you been to see the Archibalds at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, closing on August 25? Still on the art scene, the Aarwun Gallery at Gold Creek, owned by Gunning resident Robert Stephens, is holding its winter exhibition until August 17 and that includes some paintings by Cambodian orphans through ODA( Opportunities of Development through Art).
Grants available
Upper Lachlan Council is currently offering Cultural Grants up to $500, with applications closing August 30. Heritage Grants on a dollar for dollar basis are also on offer, closing on September 6. Application forms and guidelines are available from Council.
