On October 17, family and friends gathered at Gunning's Uniting Church to celebrate Janette's life. Janette was born in Grenfell on April 28 1950 and went to school there. Janette's school friends visited her shortly before her death, spending a lovely afternoon together.

Janette spent many years caring for the elderly. Her caring and nurturing bedside manner helped her dying sister-in-law Pam and family. Janette was in her turn cared for by the Gunning Health ladies, who were Janette's pall bearers.
Janette was only 16 when she met the love of her life, Laurie Stephenson, and they married on April 24 1971, being blessed with three boys - twins Craig and Adam, and Chris. They lived in Cowra, Canberra and finally, in 2005, moved to Gunning.
Janette was Nanny to Kirk, Karl, Cheyenne, Brooke, Liam, Kirsten, Mikayla and baby Robert. One of her sincerest wishes was that all her grandchildren live their lives to the fullest.
As Janette's health deteriorated, her sight was one of the things most affected. Each morning Laurie would leave her medication on the bench. However one morning by accident she swallowed a small button left on the bench instead of her tablet!
Janette made the fateful decision to go off dialysis and passed away on October 12. Sincerest condolences go to Laurie, Craig, Adam and Chris. Vale Janette.
(Barbour Park working bee)
A range of trees were planted in Barbour Park that will also be a demonstration of best practice for protecting individual paddock trees from stock depredation. Even single trees in a paddock increase the value of native vegetation on properties and the landscape.
(Model T Ford and Baileys Garage)
Recently, on his way home to Sydney from the Model T Ford convention in the Barossa Valley, Andrew Benoit dropped into Gunning. His car is a 1924 Tudor Model T and it still has the original brass dealer plate from Baileys Motor Garage on the dashboard.
Andrew bought the car in April 2013 from John Turner who had purchased it with his father in 1962 from a shearer who lived a few miles south of Gunning. I wonder if there is any chance that the shearer who sold it is still around - if you know who this is, please let me know.
(Dalton craft group)
The first meeting of the Dalton Craft and Conversation group started off promisingly with eight people coming together. Joint organiser Julie Perryman said that while participants may learn or practice various craft activities, the important part of the get together it is the social aspect. Last week there was quilting, knitting and tapestry under way.
Transport to attend the group's mornings is available so don't hesitate to contact Julie on 4845 6336 or Margaret Hindley on 6227 3177.
(Vintage and veteran cars)
Lions Market Day saw a small invasion of vintage and veteran cars arrive in the village for lunch. There was a Model T Ford, Ken Hill from Yass was there with his recently purchased 1949 Ford Mercury in a lovely russet red with scrolls and the words The Godfather inscribed on its side. Ken's car has been imported from the US and history has it that the Ford Mercury was one of the cars favoured by Mafia gangsters in America!
