'Carter and Carter' are Golden Guitar winners and, as members of the King Lake community who endured the Black Saturday fires, are well acquainted with the dangers of bushfire. They also know the difficulties of the aftermath of those fires when media attention and emergency services are called elsewhere.
They shared with us a wonderful evening of song and stories which was enjoyed by all who attended.
Approximately $1200 was raised during the evening.
Aged Care AGM
The annual general meeting of the Yass Aged Care Foundation was held recently. In his report president Peter Doyle noted that the last financial year was an improvement for investors generally. The market value of the assets of the Yass Aged Care Trust as at June 30 2012 was $3.95m. As at June 30 2013, it was $4.69m, an increase of $740,000. Income for the year included $241,718 from dividends, trust distributions and interest. Soon after June 30, a refund of $88,922 of franking credits was received from the Australian Taxation Office, "thanks to the efficiency of our official accountants and tax agents, TL Parker & Co".
This positive performance allowed the foundation to donate $160,000 from income derived during the year to Yass Valley Aged Care Limited (YVAC) and to honour its commitment to the Ron Clarke Memorial Scholarship.
The president paid tribute to Yass Valley Aged Care Limited, owner and operator of Horton House and Warmington Lodge, with whom the foundation has had close communication. The president also thanked Tony Parker for his "excellent skills considering the legislative mine fields which confront entities like ours these days".
Mr Doyle discussed the future of the foundation's investments and suggested a long term view was in order. The audited financial statements were adopted.
The president also thanked the committee members "for their commitment and assistance during the past financial year".
"Vice president Alfred McCarthy deserves particular recognition for chairing the Investment Committee but I am also indebted to both our Tonys: treasurer Tony Parker and secretary Tony MacQuillan, who have achieved a more professional business structure for our foundation and have given many hours 'pro bono' ensuring that we comply with the myriad of regulations which confront our charity," he added.
The president also thanked Lee Scott, senior investment adviser of Macquarie Private Wealth, for his valuable investment advice and guidance.

Day VIEW Club news
In October, the members and friends attending the Yass Day View Club enjoyed listening to Yvonne and Bernie Howe from 'Old and Lovely'. They brought along some of their treasures to show us and told how they came into the antiques and collectables trade. I'm sure lots of members will be making the trip out to Bowning to visit Yvonne and Bernie in their shop.
On Tuesday October 29, member Leigh Brown welcomed members to her home for a very enjoyable morning tea. They enjoyed good company, tasty treats and the beautiful view, so thanks to Leigh.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday November 12 at the Yass Golf Club. Bill Johnson, who usually assists our guest speakers with all things technical, will himself be the focus of our attention. Bill and Marilyn Johnson with the Garden Club recently visited three historic properties in the area. Bill took some beautiful photos which he will show us, while Marilyn will supply the commentary.
If you are unable to attend the meeting please ring Kay 6226 3567 or Mary 6226 1559 by 6pm Sunday November 10 with your apologies.
VIEW stands for the voice, interests and education of women, so if you would like to come along to a meeting or want to know a little more ring Kay or Mary or approach any member.
