Thankfully, federal, state and local governments combined to bring about a solution to their water woes.
Gunning arguably had worse issues than Yass with 'boil alerts' going on for weeks. Yass Valley Council is asserting that our brown water is still safe to drink - irregardless of the distasteful look, taste and smell.
But, really, would anyone drink this? And does it have to be a health issue before something can be done?
Council general manager David Rowe responded this week, saying "… It would appear the problem [of brown water] is more widespread than in previous years and we are not sure what is causing this.
"Council will be forwarding a survey to all residents… to determine the cause of the… problem and identify the areas of Yass that are being affected. Once we identify the cause… we will be investigating both short and long term solutions."
We know council doesn't have the money or manpower to fix this issue overnight. But investigations must be made and funds must be sought to ensure Yass' quality of water, now and in the future.
