A six-hectare fire which closed the southbound lanes of the Hume Highway between Jerrawa and Oolong, near Gunning, has been contained.

As at 3.35pm this afternoon, Rural Fire Service Yass superintendent Peter Dyce said the highway was reopened to traffic, although motorists could expect some delays due to smokey conditions.
He was unaware of property or stock losses at this stage.
The grass fire broke out on the Hume Highway west of Gunning at about 3pm and was travelling in a westerly direction.
Live Traffic Information confirmed all southbound lanes of the Hume Highway were closed for 30 minutes at Oolong, east of Yass, due to fires on Oolong Road.

Motorists were advised to use the Federal Highway as an alternative route, and to exercise caution because of reduced visibility due to smoke.
