The incident caused a grassfire that burnt six hectares of property and forced the closure of both southbound lanes on the Hume Highway.
The power pole fell after a large bird came into contact with one of the lines and damaged the network.
Once the fire was brought under control by RFS volunteers, Essential Energy crews responded and restored electricity to 144 homes by 3.25pm. At 4.30pm, after the area was deemed safe, power was restored to the remaining homes in the region.
Essential Energy’s regional manager for South Eastern, Phillip Green, reminded the community to stay at least eight metres away from fallen power lines and to call Essential Energy’s supply interruptions team on 13 20 80 to report any damage.
“Our supply interruptions team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide our customers with the latest information and updates about unplanned power supply interruptions,” he said.
