Commercial set for demolition

Yass Valley Council has brought the issue of what to do about the Commercial Hotel on Comur Street to a head.

At its monthly meeting last Wednesday, councillors moved a motion for "Staff to bring a report to council to show any reason why council should not issue a demolition order for the Commercial Hotel.

The motion, moved by Cr David Needham, was passed unanimously.

Councillors Michael McManus and Chris McKenzie-McHarg were absent from the meeting.

The high profile local landmark has seemingly been left to slowly rot, despite the fact it was sold to a local consortium more than 12 months ago.

Community frustration with the lack of action regarding the building has been growing, as was reported in the Tribune on March 2.

"It's just sitting there and deteriorating and deteriorating... a lot of people are just over it," Cr McKenzie-McHarg was quoted as saying.
