Major Singles continues

The Major Singles competition is progressing well, with a further four games played during the week.

Marion Darmody and Margaret Callaughan are relative newcomers to the sport and it was great to see them in action against each other.

Marion took the lead from the outset but Margaret didn’t give in and fought hard to stay in the match.

By the 21st end scores were even at 17 all and from here on it was touch and go until Margaret got the edge and was two shots up as they went into the final end.

However, luck was on Marion’s side and she managed to get a brilliant four points to get her across the line with a 25-23 tally.

In another match, Linda Scott bowled well against Enid Brooker and led all the way to finish with a 25-20 victory.

Leanne Goode defeated Margaret Holston 25-10 and then went into the next round against Tracey Thomas. Leanne’s victory run came to an end with Tracey taking the game 25-19.

It looks like Tracey is following in the footsteps of her hubby and boys and is shaping up to be a strong bowler.

Jess Keith and Margaret Holston have combined brilliantly over the past five years to continuously win the nominated pairs, but their bid to win again this year came to an abrupt halt when they were defeated by Cate Hunt and Betty Barber 21-16. Cate and Betty are strong contenders and look like being hard to beat.

It was another struggle for our weekend pennant ladies with an overall loss. Their win on one rink was not enough to over-ride the loss on the second.

One game of social triples was played with Vicki Williams, Elsie Shaw and Lois Macgregor having a drawn score of 15 all against Cheryl Carey, Wilma Bingley and Rosie Toms.

Our lady bowlers are in the process of changing their uniform to royal blue pants/skirt. If members want to order these please contact Rhonda as soon as possible.
