Cenotaph refurbishment
The final touches to the Gunning Cenotaph have now been completed and Dave Findlay, co-ordinator of the Gunning Chapter of the Yass RSL Sub Branch, is delighted with the result. He thanked all those who made this refurbishment possible. Pat Conway of PCG Landscaping, a qualified landscaper with stone masonry experience, together with Brad Noble re-clad the base of the Cenotaph and put in place the bollards and chain.
Pat and wife Clare are relatively recent Gunning residents and absolutely love it. Pat is very proud to have been able to contribute to this important project.
Team penning champions
Well known local rider Ray Phelps, formerly of Gunning and now in Grabben Gullen, and his team mates Gary Foster of Goulburn and James Horgan of Nowra, won the 2012 NSW Team Penning Championship Title at Canowindra over the long weekend. Third place went to the district team of Gary Scanes and Geoff Jones of Yass and Donna Brown of Tarago.
The combined ages of this champion team adds up to 199 years proving that there is no need to teach these old dogs any new tricks!
Patchwork weekend a great success
Over 60 ladies stitched away in many warm venues around the town at the Gunning Patchwork Weekend and enjoyed the 10th anniversary dinner. A fantastic retrospective exhibition was staged in the Shire Hall with proceeds to the Gunning District Community & Health Service towards the construction of independent living units for seniors. Julie Perryman and Trish Holden won the raffle.
Congratulations to organizers Margaret Jenkinson, Peta Luck and Maree Roche.
Disaster recovery workshop
Nearly two dozen people attended the Anglicare Disaster Recovery Workshop including six locals. The workshop gave a great insight into how such recovery is organized and what roles participants will play.
Boil water alert lifted
As of Monday June 25, the Boil Water Alert in Gunning has been lifted by council but if water quality deteriorates again it may need to be re-instated. Consistently high quality water can only be ensured when the new water treatment plant is operational, expected by early 2014.
Council elections
Council elections will be on September 8 with nominations from July 30 to August 8. The NSW government is encouraging all councils to foster greater participation by women within their organisation and among their elected representatives. Information seminars for potential candidates are at Moss Vale on July 3 and Yass on July 18.
