Plenty of people flocked to the Yass Showground to watch "the toughest sport on dirt" and they didn't leave disappointed. The bulls and riders showed great athleticism and the results have left the Australian title wide-open with new contenders emerging.
Three-time champion Dave Kennedy from Kyogle lived up to his billing as one of the major draw cards for the event, by taking the overall win with an impressive score of 173 points.
Exciting Queensland rookie Justin Paton was in good form as well, holding down second-place 11.5 points adrift of Kennedy.
General manager of PBR Australia Glen Young told the Tribune, the event was an overwhelming success.
"From the PBR's position we are extremely happy with the Yass event, he said.
"It was an event that many of our riders needed to perform well at with it being one of the final few qualifying events for the upcoming National Finals at Sydney's Allphones Arena on July 5.
"However some rose to the occasion, whilst others struggled to deliver the results they had hoped for. With the caliber of stock on offer, it was always going to be test for even the most accomplished riders competing in this event.
"The end result has made our race for the Australian Title even more exciting with three-time Australian champion David Kennedy hitting form at the right time of year as he pursues his fourth title. Also young Rookie Justin Paton, who is not only leading the pack for the 2014 rookie title but has also positioned himself as a true contender to go back to back and win the Australian title as well.
In addition to this we are also pleased to see such strong attendance figures, not only to the PBR event but also the show itself, which is a great result for the committee and local community."
