Finally I can say that Binalong folk enjoyed a fine weekend, in fact a couple of dry days before the weekend too, but what massive frosts preceded those fine days! No doubt, as some people remind us, it IS winter. It is a long time since there were so many puddles and muddy areas around.

The golfers acknowledged the glorious day (still cold though) on Sunday and quite a few turned up to play nine hole stroke events. Christine Partridge had 33 net to win the ladies' trophy donated by Bill Arabin. Curly Sykes donated the trophy for the men, which was claimed by Dave Bedford, also with a 33 net.
Next weekend nine hole events for club trophies are programmed on both days for the ladies and the men.
Last Thursday the annual meeting of the Binalong Branch of the Red Cross was held at the Royal Tara. As usual at most meetings, no one was interested in taking over any of the executive positions, so all office bearers were returned to their respective positions. Mrs Margaret Stimson again leads the branch with vice presidents Gwen Sykes and Pat Allen to assist. Mrs Elaine Dougherty was re elected as secretary while Mrs Ellen Robinson is again in charge of the fiscal matters .Mrs Isobel McDonald will continue as Patron.
Zone president Noeleen Hazell attended the meeting with her zone report while Bruce Hazell officiated with some Red Cross DVD's.
Plans for the Red Cross celebratory dinner at the Royal Tara on August 13 have been finalised and everyone in town should have received an invitation by letter drop. Niccole at the post office is taking the bookings which must be accompanied by payment.
It seems that someone is opening gates to let horses out around town. So far there has not been an incident but there could be if horses are let out to roam wherever they choose.
The small Saturday market day and the big Saturday night event held to raise money for ongoing medical treatment for Sam Longmore were very successful and the organisers should be congratulated on their efforts. Sam was injured in two accidents on the same night last year when the ambulance which came to her aid in the first accident also had an accident on the way to Canberra. Sam was seriously injured and is still unable to walk. Hopefully the money raised will help her to get further medical treatment.
Many were involved but I have to especially mention Libby and George Elliot.
