Set in sheep country in rural Australia - big hair, ugg boots, B&S Balls and good old Aussie humour mixes with great 70s rock ‘n’ roll hits such as Daddy Cool’s Eagle Rock, Skyhooks’ All My Friends Are Getting Married, Dragon’s April Sun in Cuba, Divinyls’ All the Boys in Town, ACDCs It’s A Long Way To The Top If You Want To Rock’n Roll, Ted Mulry Gang’s Jump in My Car and more! The show will be an hilarious jaunt down memory lane for many of us.
The Story…
Two of the most popular shearers in town - Troy (Jack Morton) and Darren (Aodhan Kirk) Wilson, and their mate Robbo (Alex Mulady), head out to the Bachelor and Spinster’s Ball to meet up with the girls – Kazza (Jamilla Solomons), Shazza (Olivia Muscat) and ‘Chelle (Neve Tually). During a game of chance, Troy and Darren accidently get ‘hitched’ to Kazza and Shazza. While drowning their sorrows at becoming romantically ‘tethered’, Troy and Darren are informed that one of them is heir to a multi-billion dollar sheep station called Tinbinbilla, but it is not known which Wilson brother is the lucky one. However, all is cast into despair when it is revealed that one of the brothers was betrothed in infancy to someone else.
Enter the Mr and Mrs Peed (Ryan Forlonge, Imogen McGrath) and their daughter Kylie (Clare Waters) to claim Kylie's long lost spouse and his new fortune. In a Gilbert and Sullivan style conundrum, the characters have plenty of explaining to do with lots of Aussie humour along the way!
The Great Australian Rock Musical is a non-stop side-splitter of laughs and great songs which will have you rockin’ in your seat. The clever and talented production team at Mt Carmel School has developed a reputation for creating high quality and professional standard productions in past years and this will be no exception. Annie Teasdale (Drama Teacher and Director) and Jane Edwards (Music Teacher and Musical Director) are impressed and proud of the effort and commitment shown by so many students at Mt Carmel, including attending rehearsals during the school holidays!
