Leading into the match coach Gary Lennon said two wins from the next two games would be enough to finish in the top four and they responded in the best possible fashion dominating from start to finish at Walker Park.
The Division 7 side earned a 2-0 lead at halftime and then made sure of the three points with another goal in the second half.
Lennon told the Tribune it was a dangerous match-up.
"I was a bit scared of UC, if they had of scored first and got that early confidence, I don't know if we would have been able to run them down but the guys played positively and didn't give them a sniff."
The coach was missing the impact of some of his key players and is looking forward to having everyone back.
"The Betts boys don't get back until the first week of finals and Mitch [Darmody] and Ryan [Wing] both pulled up sore, so hopefully everyone is fit and ready to go heading into the finals."
Lennon said he is pleased with the structure that allowed Jarrad Porter, Stuart Bradshaw and Daniel Taylor to score on Saturday.
"We're creating plenty of goal scoring opportunities and generally I'm a defensive coach so I think our balance is right."
The Redbacks play Weston-Molonglo next, who are yet to register a single point in the competition thus far.
"That is the case but we still can't afford to go into the game with the wrong attitude, if they score an early goal the pressure builds but we really should win three or four nil."
The Division 8 side secured a 1-1 draw with competition bottom dwellers Palerang and in doing so continue to sit one spot above the wooden spoon position for another week.
They have a superior points differential to Palerang and Brendan Heat's successful penalty means they remain in ninth position by six goals.
The women's Redbacks are still fighting for a top four spot, but a 1-1 draw with Palerang leaves them six points out of a finals spot with four games remaining. Natasha Farnsworth's second half goal has kept Yass in contention but they'll need a strong finish to the season.
Under 18s
After what seemed a long holiday break, the Yass Redbacks under 18s played Brindabella at Calwell on Saturday for a 3-0 win. The game was shortened due to a serious injury in the previous game and another injury to a Brindabella player early in their game, requiring an ambulance. Yass took time to settle into their previous good form and with great work by the opposition goalkeeper and the Redbacks defence the score remained goalless at halftime. Yass came out in the second half with improved ball control, passing and team work and dominated play. After having had numerous chances, eventually with ten minutes to go the pressure took its toll on Brindabella and three quick goals were the result. The goals were scored by Todd, Matt and Nick. The coach was away due to other commitments, but he was pleased to hear that they held their nerve and kept to their game plan. He commented that keeping a clean sheet against the competition's second-placed team is always a pleasing result. The under 18s continue on their unbeaten run and play Canberra Grammar at Walker Park on Saturday at 3.10pm.
Under 12s
The Yass Redbacks under 12s are doing a fantastic job in their first competitive season. The core of the team have been playing together since under 7s and are undefeated this season scoring 77 goals so far with only 13 against. The team is coached by Lachlan Hunter, who has taken to it brilliantly in his first year in the position.
