There is an immense feeling of sadness in Binalong as I write this on Monday afternoon, sadness that we have lost another one of our own but almost a sense of happiness that Janice Maree Schulze is no longer in pain.

Janice died last week, rather suddenly, though she has been suffering badly from cancer for the last few years. Janice knew she was dying but she faced her future and her pain with grace and dignity and at times a bit of quirky humour. She was really a beautiful person and the beauty was not just on the outside.
Janice Maree Schulze (nee Ings) passed away in the company of her children- and her children, lots of family and many friends farewelled her today at a service in St Thomas Anglican church followed by interment in the local cemetery.
Another of Binalong's former residents also died last week. John Thurnham had the local garage many years ago before moving on to warmer climates in Queensland where he and wife Lois have lived since leaving Binalong. Lawrence and Robyn Dyball and Wendy and Ray Hawley travelled to the funeral last week. Robyn and Wendy are Lois' sisters.
Going back even further in history, the older locals learnt last week of the passing of Dawn Corcoran who also lived here many years ago.
Sport
The cold miserable weekend ensured that very few people tried out the wet conditions on the golf course. A small number of enthusiastic men played nine holes on Sunday but I understand that a winner has not yet been declared.
Programmed for next Saturday is a nine-hole medley for a trophy donated by Clancy Grigg and on Sunday a Canadian Mixed Foursome for Mike and Simone Seres trophies is (hopefully) to be played. Always check if the event is important to you-if not, just turn up. Nine holes events begin at 2pm and 18 holes at 1pm but it is a good idea to check on that too in case changes have been necessary.
School
The primary school students are back in their classroom after having the water damage fixed and the hall has been sprayed in preparation for the laying of new floor covering next week.
They should be enjoying an exciting and busy week with the Book Parade on Wednesday and the Jeans for Genes day on Friday. For the book parade, the kids are asked to dress as their favourite book character and to take the book to school to share with other students and the littlies from the Preschool. The characters will be paraded in the hall at 12.30 pm and parents are invited to attend the parade and have lunch. On Friday the students can wear jeans to school for the price of a gold coin to go to research into genetic disorders. It should be a fun week.
The proposed Active After School Communities project has begun. So far the kids have enjoyed netball practice and dancing.
The school band is to perform at the Murrumburrah High school on Wednesday night. Stars this week were awarded to Henry McColl, Holly Regan, Hayley Daly and Emelia Martin.
