When there is so much depressing news in our papers and on TV, it is heartening to know that chivalry is very much alive.
Last Saturday morning in the carpark of the Riverside shopping centre in Queanbeyan, I acquired a flat tyre - the last thing I wanted to know about!
To my rescue came a resident of Murrumbateman who happened to be in Queanbeyan with his wife and children and was returning to his car - he volunteered to change my tyre for me which he did in record time. While chatting with him as he changed the tyre, he mentioned he'd taken his wife and six children out for a family dinner, but at the conclusion of the meal, when he'd gone to pay, he was told that the account had already been paid. Another person in the restaurant had been so impressed with seeing all the family out together and with the behaviour and manners of the children, that he/she had paid the account for this family in addition to their own account.
To the man who changed my tyre - thank you very much.
