As coordinator of the Community Participation Program at Valmar Support Services, Amanda's job is to help her clients (aged 18-65) to be acknowledged as valued members of the community.
"It's all about community interaction," she said.
"For instance we took clients to the Yassfm station to see how it all works and they even had some air time."
Recently Amanda visited Yass High to talk to students about the career and how rewarding her job can be.
"It's a really meaningful job, there's no better feeling than seeing a client achieve a personal goal.
"One that springs to mind recently was a client who finally got in the pool. For years she wouldn't go in but she finally made that step."
The next event she and the team are planning for is a talent quest celebrating International Day for people with a disability. To be held at Yass High in December, the clients will rehearse and perform acts assisted by the students. Funds raised will go back into the community.
The Community Participation Program is just one of the services offered by Valmar. The organisation also offers accomodation, community living, career development, leisure link, taskwrights and respite services.
