My name is Aleyn Silva. I’m the sunny age of 17 and I currently attend Yass High School. Don’t ask me about my ambitions because, like every other 17 year old, I believe that the future is way too far to worry about. I’m struggling with assignments, struggling with getting up in the morning and most school related things.

I like to write, mainly cause I’m an absolutely lousy communicator. I end up laughing a lot when I’m nervous. I end up laughing alot of the time. I’d like to think of myself as very opinionated and passionate about various issues such as animal cruelty.
This column is meant to illustrate my ‘opinion’, though the undeniable subtle undertone of our social system indicates that it must conform to the values of others. If I chose to write something extremely controversial there would be a tide of undeniable people roaring their assent and forcing me to compromise to their beliefs.
But right now I’m meant to be studying for chemistry, but I just woke up and my mind is still foggy and I’m having trouble concentrating. My preliminary exams for the end of year 11 begin tomorrow, a truly daunting prospect. What I feel is most frightening though is the fact that I have to accept that I’m getting older; that I’ll soon be in year 12, and this stage of my life will be finished. I’m excited about this large stepping stone, but I’m trying to make sure I don’t crack under the pressure of it all.
When you’re younger, people tell you how it is. You’ll finish school, get a house, get married and have kids. But the world is so much darker and illogical then that.
Most people suggest to kids that they should study all the time. Well I’ve done that. And to be honest I feel regret for the fun I could have had. I’m now entering the serious stage of my life where I have to put even more effort in. I believe for younger kids especially; that there should be a balance between fun and learning.
