Night in the Lane was designed basically to show off the amazing array of youth arts talent currently available within the Yass Valley but is also a chance for the youth of the region to organise and stage their own event.
Assisting them achieve this were Kim Nelson of YASSarts, musicians Chad Croker and Ken McNally and 'Night in the Lane' organiser Aluntum Sudnit. Cartoonist and animator Simon Streatfeild and his wife Cassandra took care of getting folk involved in the grafitti wall: a six-metre artwork that was an ongoing creation throughout the night.
Touring musician James Southwell came up from Melbourne especially to perform. Yass Valley born and bred, Southwell first started performing on stage at the age of 12 alongside blues guitar legends such as Kevin Borich and Phil Manning.
"Yass. You did things last night. Good things. Keep up the good work!" he said.
Thyme to Taste Cafe ensured that food and refreshments were available throughout the night, catering for an estimated average audience of 250.
"The event went from 6.00pm to 10.30pm", Thyme to Taste proprieter Andrew Dodds confirmed.
"Some people came and went throughout the evening, but there seemed to be a core group of about that many."
"It was a cool evening in both senses," YASSarts' Kim Nelson added.
"There is talk of staging the next one in Summer, perhaps at the end of January."
The Night in the Lane organizers would like to acknowledge the support of Yass Valley Council's Community Small Grants funding.
