The committee held it's AGM recently and the board took a totally new form, with new members installed in every position.
Kim Williams stepped down from the position as president and Thornley was nominated in the top role immediately. New vice-presidents named were Peter Logue and Mark Garland, John Powell took on the Treasurer position and Jim Wheeler, with the promised help of Lyn Polsen, took on the secretary role. Mark Gatt and Mark Dyball also became new committee members.
The club, an institution in Yass, has put the call out for new players this season in an effort to bolster development of tennis in the Yass Valley. There is also a plan to install lights on the back courts so more matches can be played and games can finish earlier on competition nights.
Thornley insisted the club is a welcoming one and offers great competition on a weekly basis.
"While we are a friendly group we also offer the quality competition that tennis players love.
"There's a great bunch of people within the club and we cater for people of any skill, so there's really no excuse not to get involved.
"Basically we just want to remind people that tennis is on, every Monday, and that we'd love as many people as possible to get involved."
Development of junior tennis in the area is also of high priority for Thornley and his committee.
And, there is also talk of luring in a full-time coach if possible.
"We're working on a few different options and I think it would be great if we could get a full-time coach working here in Yass. It's definitely a possiblity."
The night competition kicks off on Monday October 13 at 7pm. To register call David on 6226 3684, Mark on 0408 621 431 or Peter on 6227 5887 before 7pm on October 7.
