Currently the Murrumbateman postal service is being run by volunteers from the local community and can only offer parcel collection, from the recreation grounds. The changeover will provide residents with increased services and more convenient operating hours.
After months of pleading from desperate local residents, owners Shravan Bolli and Amanda Coultin and their two children Sam and Zara are extremely happy to be bringing this facility back to the local community.
“The people of Murrumbateman and the surrounding region deserve these facilities and services. For me it’s just having the vision and being proactive in providing these residents with basic services,” said Mr Bolli.
It will be a pick-up and drop off system and will be run from behind the pharmacy counters until the post-office boxes arrive.
“There was a lot of paperwork involved, including police checks and we had to prove it would be viable. But it will be worth it, it’s great thing for the community and we’re quite convenient in the centre of town,” said Mr Bolli.
“The Regional manager of Australia Post wants it to happen as soon as possible which is a good indication things are going to progress quite fast now the paperwork is in place.”
Murrumbateman stalwart Meryl Hunter is thrilled at the prospect of getting a local post office back into the community. “It’s really the centre of a community, everyone uses it, when it was taken from the community the heart was also taken.”
Meryl praises the volunteers at the parcel pickup who have worked without pay for an onerous six days a week, each week for years, to provide some service to the residents.
“It takes a special person to volunteer your time like that. It’s a great thing to come back to Murrumbateman as it has been sorely missed by the entire community,” said Mrs Hunter.
Mr Bolli and his fiancee Amanda have been fully committed in the growth of the Murrumbateman community, servicing residents for all health needs through their pharmacy, and now
medical centre, and were the organisers responsible for initiating the Murrumbateman farmers markets.
