If she is successful at tonight's elections at the ordinary council meeting, it will mark her third year in the position and she feels she still has lots to do.
"I think there are some good projects that we've started and I think I'd like to see them taken further," she told the Tribune.
"I understand no one's irreplaceable but at this stage I think I still have something that I can offer.
I want to assist in moving things all of our different projects along and so on that basis I'll put myself up and then it's over to the other councillors to decide whether I am doing a good enough job to stay."
She said while council has had its speed bumps during her tenure as mayor, there are positive projects that will be built on whether she is re-elected or not.
"We're looking at a bit of a re-work of the committees to make them a bit more focused and get some results back for the community and there's also big things happening in Murrumbateman, with sewerage and water. There's also big hopes for the improvement of infrastructure all over Yass as well.
"We haven't made as much progress as I would have liked but that seems to be what happens in local government; there's a lot more checks and balances and the process is always a bit slower."
The Tribune was unable to contact councillor Michael McManus before we went to press, but Cr Abbey speculated that he would re-run for the Deputy Mayor position.
