The 2013 event, which was the first of its kind in Yass, attracted approximately 450 runners. While this year 271 registrations had already been tallied as of September 22.
Event organiser David Richards said he anticipated a rush as the weekend neared.
"Yeah we expect at least another 100-150 to put their names down in the last few days of registration, so we're on track for a similar showing to last year," he revealed.
Interestingly, the most sought after race is the half-marathon.
"We thought that the 2.5km fun run would be one of the more popular and of course the 5km but it seems that everyone is looking to really test themselves this year."
At last count, 101 runners were competing in the half-marathon; 83 names were down for the 5km; there were 54 participants in the 14km; and another 33 entered in the 2.5km fun run.
For those who didn't make it down to have a look last year, there is a genuine festival atmosphere. And it will not have lost any of its luster in 2014, with main backer Elite Energy signing on again. Such luxuries as a red carpet leading the way to the finish line, the Yass Wellness Centre providing massages to weary runners, and food, drink and merchandise stalls, it's the Yass equivalent of the New York Marathon.
Last year runners came from all over Australia to enjoy the scenery and test of the hilly terrain, and after the flawless running of the inaugural festival, word-of-mouth is sure to increase those numbers.
Richards says the event is still short of volunteers so if you are interested please contact him on 0408 629 547.
Major sponsors of the event include the Yass Wellness Centre, Classic Constructions, Yass Valley Council and Yass Pharmacy.
