Local folk who have been here a while extend their sympathy to Mrs Miriam Bradly and family on the sudden death of her husband and their father Robert last week at their home in Harden. Robert and Miriam lived in Binalong for some time before moving to Harden several years ago. Robert had not enjoyed good health for quite few years.

Locals also offer their love and best wishes to Mrs Dulcie Arabin who was seriously injured in a car accident a week or so ago. Several people were involved in the two car accident but Dulcie suffered the most serious injuries. She remains in the St George Hospital in Sydney where she was flown following the accident. We all hope she will recover quickly.
Congratulations to Biorn and Linda Glover on the safe arrival of their baby daughter last week. No doubt she will be spoilt by her two big brothers and grand parents David (Pat) and Dayle Glover.
Two large brown snakes were removed from the school area last week, after they had taken up residence on the path and near the flagpole. Scary stuff! As a result of this incident, bushes will be lifted where possible to make them less inviting to the reptiles. As all snakes seem to enjoy chook eggs, the children will no longer feed the chooks and they have been made aware of the dangers of these unwanted visitors.
The bushfire possibilities have been outlined in a letter to parents where arrangements for any possible 'catastrophic' event have been explained. The school needs up to date contact details in case of a major problem. They have an agreement with the Bowning School that local students can go there if safe to do so. And vice versa, the Bowning kids can come here if they need to be at school and it is safe to do so.
The Life Education Van will be at the school on Tuesday October 28. Students from the Jugiong School and the littlies from the Pre-school will also attend. Two days later the school photos will be taken and the kids need to be in full summer uniform.
The importance of wearing a hat in the playground has again been emphasised. No hat, no play. And broad brimmed hats are far better than caps.
Friday will see the students attend the football and netball carnival at Boorowa.
Most of the kids will be happy with the commencement of the Active After School programme this week. They will be playing cricket this term with the help of Miss O'Connor who will in turn be "upskilled" by Liz McPherson from Milo cricket.
Band and music lessons will commence again this week. Star winners last week were Henry McColl, Alerya Brayshaw, Ivy Saunders and Georgie Ings.
The commencement of the Friday evening bowls last week was an abject failure with only five players turning up. One went home and the other four had a game. Perhaps being the first evening some may have forgotten but it is quite obvious that the bowls cannot continue it there is so little interest. Opening the club on Friday evenings cannot be justified unless there are enough players to make it worthwhile. Unfortunately a number of players seem to have lost interest.
On Wednesday a team will go to the ladies novelty day at Coota Ex Club and on Sunday the men will field a team, also at Coota.
The golf on Friday evening created more interest with the players attempting to conquer nine par threes, organised by John Lee. Dave Bedford claimed the first title for this novelty event. Helen Curtis won the day on Saturday and Godfrey Regan handled the par three layouts on Sunday to be declared the winner.
Programmed for next Saturday is a medley nine-hole American foursome for the Binalong Garage trophies and on Sunday there will be nine-hole-stroke for the men and the ladies for trophies donated by Peter Minson and Lindsay McDonald.
Unfortunately I have first hand information and experience of the extremely serious and debilitating illness that has been affecting so many people who never get a cold. Actually it is not a cold but in my case a lung infection. I only mention my illness so I can urge anyone who suffers this problem to seek medical help and do not think you can cure yourself, as so many of us do. You really need qualified medical assistance to beat this little bug.
Until next time.
