Celebrating its ninth year of fast cars, fancy costumes and fabulous festivities, this years Classic Yass is set to transform Banjo Paterson Park in Yass into a wonderland of entertainment, revving up to be the best year so far. 

Classic Yass will bring the Valley to life in a two day festival extravaganza featuring everything from military vehicles, to muscle cars, and a few hot rods.

With November nearly in our grasp, festival-goers can expect a day packed full of entertainment both on and off the track, including the famous billy cart derby, classic cars, live music, markets, historic ‘Cliftonwood’, heavy horses, vintage fashion, arts & crafts, the railway museum and a photo competition.

And the action doesn’t just stop on the track, with live music from ‘The Hips’, featuring Rockpile Jones and Paul McCann from the original Ol’ 55 lineup, they will be playing all your favourites from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, plus of course a few Ol’ 55 hits in a free concert from 11 am.                                    

They will front up again at the Yass Soldiers Club on Saturday night at 8pm, for a Charity Rock and Roll Dance with the theme being ‘Black and White with a Touch of Nostalgia’. Tickets for the dance are only $10 and are available at the door on Saturday night. All profits from ticket sales go to local charities

President of the Yass Antique Motor Club Ken Reidy told the Tribune that this year’s car entries have hit record numbers.

“Last year we had 170 cars, there are currently 215 entries,” Mr Reidy explains. 

“People are coming from all over this year, from the south Coast, Wagga Wagga,  Lithgow, the list goes on.  Most people are staying overnight in hotels and going to the dance on Saturday night.”

The billy cart derby organised by Rotary, last year held 60 billycarts and this year is shaping up to include a few more competitors. 

“People are able to turn up on the day and submit their carts for checks so we never really know the exact numbers, each year we get about 10 semi-professional racers,” Mr Reidy said.

This is a free event for the whole family and people are encouraged to dress up in their favourite vintage fashion, and organisers ask visitors to come along and soak up the atmosphere.

It’s one of the biggest events of the year for Yass on November 1 and 2, so make sure you don’t miss out!
