Although heavily grounded in jazz, Ms Corson has a singing and performance background that spans most genres of music. She started her apprenticeship ‘treading the boards’ in musicals, plays, cabaret and theatre restaurant before graduating from the Australian National University School of Music in Jazz Studies.
Ms Corson toured extensively both nationally and internationally as a founding member of the internationally renowned a cappella group ‘The Idea of North’. Her nine years with the group provided a wealth of experience including invaluable mentoring by James Morrison, the release of two CDs to rave reviews and a number one chart status with two ‘MO’ award nominations. Other highlights include; invitations to perform in New York City at the International Association of Jazz Educators conference, performing on the main stage at the San Jose Jazz Festival (USA), and providing entertainment at the MCG for the AFL Grand Final.
Throughout her career she’s fronted jazz bands, big bands and orchestras for major public events. She has performed with and supported such artists as James Morrison, Don Burrows, Abdullah Ibrahim, Marcia Hines, Jose Feliciano, Vince Jones, Marina Prior, Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian. Some performance highlights include singing for Geoffrey Rush’s 60th and recently sharing the stage with Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness.
Her repertoire is undoubtedly jazz but her diverse experience always allows her to let the mood guide where her songs go! The gift of a beautiful voice is a great thing, but when complemented with the ability to communicate the heart and soul of a song you have a musical experience that is set apart from the rest. Let yourself be seduced by the velvety smooth voice and soulful stylings of Meg Corson. A supper will be served by the Friends of Cooma Cottage. All welcome, casual attendance is just $25.
