An unbeaten century from skipper Andrew Swaffield was enough to ensure the Bowning Buffaloes began the 2014/15 Triggs Shield season with a win.
The 'Buffs' amassed a total of 208 from their 45 overs thanks
to the captain's knock and 35-run support act from AJ Omara.
Swaffield came to the crease at Bowning Oval with his side struggling at 2 for 34 and steered his side to the winning total, notching his ton in the final over of the innings.
In reply, the Royal Hotel Pirates were matching the Buffs at the half-way stage of the innings but were eventually bundled out for 138 in the 39th over.
Swaffield, who's looking to go one better after losing last season's grand final to the Soldiers Club Snipers, was satisified with the performance.
"We were happy to get the season off to a good start. We're not getting carried away though, it's the first round and the Pirates had a few key players out," he said.
"But the way the batting innings was constructed was pleasing as was winning at home in front of local supporters."
With the grand final re-match this weekend, the Buffaloes will be determined to exact some revenge and string successive wins together.
"This weekend's game against the Snipers will be a tough one. We've been disappointed with our recent performances on turf and the Snipers have a lot of depth with both bat and ball."
Despite the depth that Swaffield mentioned, the Snipers were easily accounted for on Saturday, losing to the Yass Golf Club Piranhas by five wickets at Victoria Park.
The Snipers chose to bat first but were rattled early as skipper Dave Field was dismissed without troubling the scorers. Fellow opener Ben Mudaliar got the innings back on track with 34 runs but without support from his teammates, the reigning Triggs Shield champions could only manage 79 before they were bowled out in the 36th over.
The fixture between Harden and Boorowa was deferred through a mutual agreement between both clubs due to the Harden picnic races being staged, it is now scheduled for January 24.

A 109-run stand by the Gundaroo openers set up a massive match-winning total of 309 at Gundaroo Oval on Saturday.
Anthony Mortimer (123) and Clint Harvey (57) laid the platform for the home side before Sean Egan finished the innings off in style (45 not out).
The run rate of close to eight an over was too much for the Yass Golf Club Taipans, who only reached 76 in reply.
A 46-run haul from Jason Howard gave the Binalong Bushrangers hope of a winning start to their 2014/15 campaign but that hope was quickly dashed as the Soldiers Club Horns middle-order took to the Binalong bowling attack.
Joe Logue (32) and Josh Payton (38 not out)combined to chase down the total in the 24th over.
