I've recently received a generic e-mail from Angus Taylor, our Federal Member for Hume in which he extols the benefits of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreements (ChaFTA) and he is glowingly supportive of this initiative, which had already been in negotiation for some years by the previous Labor government.
I hope that this deal with China is as good as we've been told it is for Australia, but the Chinese are very skilled in the art of gaining an advantage in things as was well explicated in that old Chinese treatise on tactics, "The Art of War".
I should say that I'm very disappointed with the latest broken promise from our Prime Minister regarding the ABC and I thought that the volt farce in the weasel words used to justify this action was as bad as the 'Julialiar' stuff that Tony Abbott used to attack her. I won't even mention proposed cuts to education and Medicare both of which he declared would be untouched.
That well professed Christian, the Minister for Immigration, Scott Morrison continues to add to his obsessively unjust treatment of asylum seekers by his latest stand regarding these unfortunates generally and the hundreds of children who remain in detention against any standards of humanity. Nauru and Manus Island also continue to shame us all but they were put on the agenda by Labor.
Further, it was good to see that the Senate with its new Coalition of disparate dissidents has rejected the grossly ill-informed regulation of Financial Advisers and the shady stuff that the Government has attempted there.
Angus, the main reason that you're in government, I think, is that Shorten and the Opposition are so appalling - and I also think that it's a disgrace that there's only one woman on your Front Bench and she has been, in many ways, most impressive!
Keep fighting the good fight, Angus, but it'll be hard going because this Government is so universally inept.
Brian Millett,
Yass
