Josh Darlow has landed one of the scholarships, which allow medical students the opportunity to experience life in rural and regional areas.
The NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN) administers the Bush Bursary and Country Women’s Association (CWA) scholarships as part of its commitment to attracting and retaining medical, nursing and allied health professionals to the bush.
The scholarship gives students $3,000 for one year, during which time they spend two weeks in their sponsoring rural area experiencing work and life.
A full itinerary has been planned for Josh’s visit including time spent at local medical practices, pharmacies, allied health professionals, emergency service providers, Yass Hospital and council.
Former Bush Bursary recipient Kate Musil, who was placed in Yass Valley in 2013, enjoyed her experience in the Yass Valley.
“Everyone was so lovely and generous; taking the time out of their busy days to talk with me, explain their roles, and have me go along with them to actually experience what they do. Not to mention the community, as patients, who kindly let me sit in on consultations with their doctors,” Kate said.
Josh will visit Yass in early December.
